MEET WALT

Walter Ghant, MA, MPA, MDiv, PCA

Professional Counselor Associate

approach

I believe all people are the experts of their own lives. I am a facilitator that guides persons to discovering their own productive and positive solutions. I meet individuals where they are and focus on identified goals and desired outcomes. My primary therapeutic approach is person-centered and solution focused. However, I am integrative with approaches utilizing Narrative, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic (CBT) modalities. My goal is for you to feel respected and safe while exploring your journey in our time together. I offer techniques for persons to "try out" in between sessions to practice self reflection and develop necessary skills for growth. I look forward to working with you.

"It is a privilege for you to share your journey with me. I consider this a sacred trust. I look forward to walking with you on this journey of discovery and celebration of your potential"

My career path has taken me from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) to Portland, OR., in the fields of mental health, affordable housing, education, and nonprofit administration. I am an advocate for marginalized persons and oppressed communities. I have experience working with at-risk youth, youth adults, families, and couples as an advocate for enhancing quality of life for all persons.

I have experience providing services to individuals, children, and families in rural and urban communities, supporting persons in court, and working closely with community partners.

As an African-American male, who served in the military and has lived in many places in the U.S. and abroad, I am passionate about providing support to persons of color impacted by racism, violence, and mass incarceration targeting people of color. I have experience as a case manager, life skills coach, conflict resolution facilitator, youth mentor, addictions counselor, and community advocate for mental health services. I have served houseless populations from the Nation's Capitol to the streets of Portland, Oregon. I am a community agent invested in the positive change of oppressed communities and marginalized people.
